I was the official photographer at the 2025 Texas State 4-H Horse Show, capturing the youth competitors of Texas.
The State 4-H Horse Show is a statewide event organized and run by the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program, which operates under the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Youth competitors from across Texas gather at the Brazos County Expo for a week-long showcase of skill and dedication. The show features a wide range of disciplines, including Halter, Futurity, Western Performance, English Performance, Hunter, Ranch, Stock Horse, Speed Events, and Cow Work classes.
The past two years, the show struggled to find an official photographer, so I took the opportunity to offer my services. I needed an opportunity to grow my photography business and I thought that this would be a perfect way to do that.
I learned so much from photographing an event of this scale, especially when it comes to the areas I can continue improving for next year. It’s long days and early mornings, constantly problem-solving and adapting in the moment. It’s so much more than just taking photos—it’s everything behind the scenes: editing, social media, communication, dedication, working with clients and potential clients, and navigating the dynamics of both horses and youth. It’s pushing myself to try new angles and creative shots while maintaining that creativity all day long. There are so many moving parts, and it’s incredibly rewarding to watch everything come together in the end.
I want nothing but the best for the youth involved in 4-H. I always cherished my time showing at the state show as a competitor, so being able to now provide services to today’s youth feels like a true full-circle moment. It’s incredibly special for both parents and riders to have the opportunity to purchase photos from the show—giving them a way to preserve and relive the memories they’ve worked so hard to create.
